The Steelers came off a mediocre 2013 season with an even record of 8-8, the same as 2012. It was certainly disappointing for fans who were hoping for a greater result but mostly because they have seen the success of Ben Roethlisberger decline in recent years with age. There are high hopes that with some star additions to the team during the draft, they can make a run for the playoffs in the AFC by at least getting a wild card draw.
The Steelers play in Heinz Stadium, which is located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The Steelers football stadium is also host to the Pittsburgh Panthers football team. There is a seating capacity for over 65,000 fans who want to watch football.
Ben Roethlisberger returns as quarterback and will need to prove his aging isn’t affecting his ability to connect with receivers. Dri Archer will be there to work with him as runner and receiver.
Bruce Gradkowski, William Gay and Guy Whimper have done great work in their positions. The offensive line will need to improve and protect Roethlisberger more or they run the risk of more turnovers than they care to admit.
The defense is largely unchanged and hoping to have a productive and dominant repeat of 2013. They hope to improve their sacks number and beat the 37 which they had last season.
The Pittsburgh Steelers had a mixed bag when it comes to the draft of 2013. They got some big names to fill in some of their gaps, but key positions on both the offense and the defense could use bolstering. The Steelers took Ryan Shazier, a linebacker out of Ohio State. For the second pick, they took Stephon Tuitt a defensive end from Notre Dame. In the third round, they chose Dri Archer, a running back from Kent State.
Mike Tomlin returns for his eighth season as the Head Coach of the Steelers. The offensive coordinator is Todd Haley and the defensive coordinator is Dick LeBeau. John Mitchell is the assistant head coach and Danny Smith is in charge of the special teams. There is pressure on the staff to improve their record and make it to the playoffs. Failure to do so could result in several changes to the coaching staff for 2014.
